No, it is not a Nook.

For me this was a nice compromise between the Nook (black and white) and the Nook Color. A touchscreen and browser weren’t important to me. The money savings, especially buying the Lookbook on sale, made it all the better… the price difference pays for a lot of eBooks!

It is very similar to the Nook Color though in size and function- minus the touchscreen and internet browser. It is simply an e-reader with Wi-Fi which is able to access software updates from the manufacturer and Kobobooks’ online store.

The keyboard is definitely tiny, but the keys click like a regular keyboard so it has a good tactile feel; you know if you’ve depressed the key sufficiently. The joystick portion could use bigger directional keys around it, but you get used to it.

Out of the box, the Lookbook does what it is supposed to… flawlessly.

The manufacturer recommends charging the Lookbook for 6 hours prior to using it. When you first turn it on, they suggest accessing the Wi-Fi to receive available updates. You need your wireless router’s password to do so. It will hit the Wi-Fi twice and complete two updates, needing to be restarted each time, before it is fully ready to go. It did so easily and quickly.

The reader itself functions very well, also. The color screen is vibrant and sharp, allowing many adjustments- brightness, font, and text size. It has a night reading mode that reverses the view- white on black. You can even change the look of your bookshelf (not exactly necessary, but fun). It offers an on-board dictionary that is accessible without leaving your spot in the book you are reading. Battery life has been good; turning down the brightness and turning off the Wi-Fi helps the battery last longer. Pages are turned by left and right directional keys on both sides of the screen- user friendly to both lefties and righties!

I have downloaded a few books from Kobo; download time is 5-10 seconds. The ’150 free books’ is a bit misleading. They are NOT preloaded; only 25 are. The 125 other free books (actually more) are classics that available through Kobo- your choice, 1 or all.

Also, the internal memory is 512MB; though it appears to be less because some of it is taken up by the Kobo software it e-reader runs on. Still not bad though, as the 29 books I currently have only take up 35MB. I really can’t imagine keeping 400+ books on here. The Lookbook has an SD slot that allows for up to an 8GB card, but I doubt I’ll ever need an SD card.

As an added bonus, the Lookbook comes with a portfolio-style protective cover.

Admittedly, I did buy this reluctantly; after all, it is a pretty much no-name item. (Makes it less likely to be stolen!) I have to say though that I have been pleasantly surprised. This has definitely been a worthwhile purchase! I do not regret it at all.

Oh, yeah, and if you do insert an SD card with image files, the Lookbook can play the part of a photo viewer, too. :)

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Shift3 Lookbook Wireless eReader with 150 Bonus Books (Electronics)

I bought this, very afraid because of the reviews I’ve seen online, but so far I am loving it! It is very easy to use and the best part is you can add your own books to it! It is very simple, no touch screen, but it has a color screen. For the price it is a good ereader, if you want something simple and just to read. I think it does it’s job very well
